İlyas Salman’ın Ateistliği Üzerine

Korkut Ata Türkiyat Araştırmaları Dergisi

Abstract

Ilyas Salman is a famous artist who has won a place in the hearts of Anatolian people with many cinema films he has played. Born into a Turkmen Alevi family from Malatya, the artist lost his faith with the effect of the events he experienced when he was young. Although Salman, who frequently expresses his socialist and leftist views, sometimes gives the impression that he is an ideological atheist, he seems to have turned towards theoretical atheism as a result of the loss of many of his siblings when they were young. The artist, who conveys his feelings and thoughts without hesitation, clearly expresses that he is an atheist both in his interviews with visual media tools and in his books. Although he adopted atheism due to his traumatic experiences, some of Salman's statements make it possible to interpret that he may be an agnostic. The study examines Salman’s statements about his conception of God and atheism based on his books, poetry and interviews. The study, in which the documentary analysis method is used, is limited to the determination and interpretation of the reasons leading Salman to atheism. Although there hes been a focus on atheism studies in our country, it has been observed that research on Turkish atheists remains limited. In this context, it is hoped that the study will contribute not only to the field of philosophy of religion but also to atheism studies in Turkey.
