Korkut Ata Türkiyat Araştırmaları Dergisi

Abstract

Mehmed Celal was born in 1867. His childhood years were spent in various provinces due to his father’s duty. For this reason, he could not get a regular education. He tried to memorize the poems of some divan poets, learned to play the saz and took music lessons. He entered the Gendarmerie Department as a clerk at the age of 15, and later became a mumeyyiz. The poet, who sent his first articles to Tercüman-ı Hakikat, later sent his articles to other newspapers. He fell in love with a girl named Anna, but he could not marry her. Even though he married five times later, he could not forget her. Because of these situations, a state of insanity was observed in him. He was hospitalized and received treatment. However, he did not fully recover; he died in 1912. He was buried in Yenikapı Mevlevi Lodge. Mehmed Celal is successful in reciting poetry quickly. Young people interested in literature took him as an example and wrote similar poems to his poems. He has produced many works in verse and prose. One of the works he wrote is Surud. There are forty-nine poems in this work. He wrote this work in three months. In this study, the poet's work will be introduced and examples from his poems will be given.
