Abstract
Sait Faik Abasıyanık began publishing his stories in the 1930s. With his unique narrative style, he became one of the leading figures of modern Turkish short story writing. In his stories, he employs a plain, sincere, poetic language. He is immersed in daily life, observing the people on the streets. There are people he wonders who they are, what they do, what their inner world is like. Drawing on the artistic possibilities of storytelling, he includes of these people in his stories. The author describes people who work in a profession, support their families with their labour, are honest and not greedy. However, there are many difficulties in the world. People are driven by the desire for wealth, do not hesitate to deceive others. In such a world, honest people who make life beautiful give the storyteller hope. He does not particularly favor giving direct messages in his stories, and it can be said that he also conveys a sense of “work ethic” through individuals. This article focuses on the theme of ‘work ethic’ in Sait Faik’s stories.
