Abstract
Fairy tales, which mirror the belief system, philosophy of life and worldview of the society to which they belong through the rich motifs and cultural codes they carry within the products of oral folk literature, are a type of narrative that has largely preserved its texture woven with symbols in terms of content, although it has differentiated and varied structurally from past to present. In this respect, it is of great importance that fairy tales are analyzed in detail by researchers in various fields such as language, folklore, philosophy, sociology and psychology. In this study, which was prepared in order to contribute to the Turkic World fairy tale research, a structural and semantic analysis was made on the Sakha (Yakut) fairy tale named Ucurğay Baatır selected from Nikolay Gavriloviç Yakutskay’s Ostuoruyalar, Nomoxtor, Kepseenner, Sehen. In the first part of this analysis, which consists of two main parts, the motif and formal structure elements of the tale were evaluated. In the second part, beech tree, eagle, snake, old sage Seerkeen Sehen and iron, which were identified in the tale and played a role in shaping the plot, were analyzed based on their mythological meaning and the reflections of these mythical elements in the social memory of Sakha Turks were emphasized. It was observed that the mythological elements of the tale, which was rich in motifs and weak in terms of stereotypes, played an important role in the fiction of the text, and that the meaning equivalents in Turkic mythology were preserved and kept alive.
