Osman Dede’nin Rabt-ı Ta’bîrât-ı Mûsıkî Mesnevîsi Hakkında Yeni Bulgular: Ta’bîr mi Tağyîr mi?

Abstract

Kutbünnâyî Osman Dede is one of the important figures of Turkish music and poetry in the Tulip Era. Osman Dede, who was born and died in Istanbul, became a Mevlevi at an early age and later rose to the rank of sheikh. Osman Dede, besides being a master ney player, showed his own talent in poetry, composition and calligraphy. Osman Dede, who knows Persian and Arabic well, has written important works in the field of poetry and music. One of the important works written by Osman Dede on music is the work known today as "Rabt-ı Ta'bîrât-ı Mûsıkî". This work was written in masnavi form and in Persian. Consisting of 277 couplets in total, this work was published twice in Turkey. However, both of these publications were based on a single copy and the name of the work was recorded as "Rabt-ı Ta'bîrât-ı Mûsıkî" due to the spelling errors in that copy. However, looking at an old copy of the work and its content, it is understood that the correct form of the name of this masnavi is "Rabt-ı Tagyîrât-ı Mûsıkî". It is not difficult to understand from the other clues in the text that Nayî Osman Dede deliberately used the word "Tagyirat" instead of "Ta'birat" in his treatise. In this study, it has been suggested that the real name of Kutbünnâyî Osman Dede's work known as Rabt-ı Ta'bîrât-ı Mûsıkî is most likely "Rabt-ı Tağyîrât-ı Mûsıkî".
