Abstract
In the process of long historical developments, Uyghur people are during the contact and communication with other nations in such aspects as economy and culture, they borrowed a large number of loan words form their languages. Conjunctions are one of them. From the point of view of etymology, the loan conjunctions are borrowed Arabic and Persian, or a combination of the two languages in various historical periods in Uyghur. Loan conjunctions are not only enriching the syntactic structures of Uyghur, but also it is enriching language expression became more effective. In this paper, loan conjunctions from the Modern Uyghur Detailed Dictionary were chosen and analyzed as to when they started to exist as loan conjunctions in Uyghur language, and their usage in various stages of Uyghur is elaborated upon. According to our research, loan conjunctions are not found in the texts before the Karakhani period. After the Uighurs accepted Islam, loan conjunctions began to be used in written texts, and their use increased even more in the Chagatai period. In New Uyghur, the rate of loan conjunctions is higher than other word types, and 29 out of 74 conjunctions were found to be quoted onjunctions. However, the use of these quotation conjunctions in daily use is very rare, and some of them are not used at all in spoken language.
