Şeyh Gâlib’in III. Selîm’e Yazdığı Yayımlanmayan Bir Kasidesi

Abstract

Being one of the most potent poets of the 18th century, Sheikh Gâlib composed his divan at a very young age with the poems he wrote using the pen name Es’ad-Gâlib and made himself an important place in our literature. Sheikh Gâlib, who continued writing poems even after completing his divan, thanks to the close relationship he built with Sultan Selim the III, wrote new year greetings, eulogies and also poems for historical artifacts they had built for the Sultan and members of the dynasty. Gâlib, who was in close relations with the poet sultan of the period, Selîm the 3rd, presented an ode to the sultan, whom he received great favor, apart from those in his divan. Although most of the poems are in his divan, it is seen that there are some unpublished poems that have remained unearthed in the journal and archive documents. The difference in the number of poems in both printed and critical publications of the divan is an indication that Sheikh Gâlib continued to write poems even after completing his divan. Sheikh Gâlib, who was in a close relationship with the poet sultan of the era Selîm III , presented a qasidah to the Sultan apart from those in his divan. The Qasidah, which has not been received any studies onto it until now, is plays a highly important as it shows the close relationship between Sultan and Sheikh Gâlib. In this article, after briefly mentioning the studies on Sheikh Gâlib’s poems his relation with Selîm III will be refer to. After those information an unpublished text of a qasidah written by Sheikh Galib to Selîm III, that is in the Topkapı Palace Archive, will be given.
