Türkiye Türkçesi Ağız Çalışmalarının Kısa Tarihi

Korkut Ata Türkiyat Araştırmaları Dergisi

Abstract

Dialect studies examine the phonetic, morphological, and syntactic aspects of language, revealing linguistic features and providing rich information about vocabulary. Over time, Turkish dialect research has undergone significant development through the efforts of researchers who recognized the richness of this field and established scientific awareness. The aim of this study is to outline the basic aspects of dialect studies and to highlight the contributions of leading Turkish Turkologists., and raise awareness among new researchers. The history of Turkish dialect studies dates back to the 19th century. The first period is characterized by studies on Ottoman Turkish and works by foreign researchers on dialectology. The second period, starting from 1940, includes studies by local Turkologists, which have developed in both quality and quantity over time. The efforts of the Turkish Language Association in publishing and the focus on dialects in postgraduate studies since the 1970s have led to significant advancements in dialect research.
