Abstract

Ahmed Rasim, one of the prolific writers of Turkish literature, has produced works in many literary genres. Bedâyi-i Keşfiyyât ve İhtirâât-ı Beşeriyye Phonograph is the first work of Ahmed Rasim. In this book written in 1885, Rasim introduces the phonograph discovered by Edison in America and explains the working principle of this device. The author gives place to three different figures of the phonograph. He assigned a letter to the parts of the instrument in the figures and explained the functions of the parts through these letters. The production phases of the phonograph, which has left its place to different technological devices today, and the scientists who contributed to the study, are also mentioned in the work. This work is important because it is the place where the instrument called phonograph was first decected in and introduced. In this study, it was determined that after Ahmed Rasim, Ahmed Midhat Efendi and Sami Paşazade Sezai also talked about the phonograph in their works; Then, in 1894, the phonograph was took place in the dictionary named Lügat-i Naci. The work named Bedâyi-i Keşfiyyât ve İhtirâât-ı Beşeriyye Phonograph, registered in the İ.B.B. Atatürk Library with the number K / 1079, consists of 15 pages. The İfâde-i Mahsûsa section of the work and the text titled Phonograph were transferred to Latin letters. It is aimed to contribute to the 19th century vocabulary by preparing the dictionary of the work
